Why I Should Reject Fornication

What do I have to prove?  Sure, there are others who are having sex.  Sure, they say it is no big deal.  Sure, nothing may have happened to them, but again I ask what do I have to prove?

You tell me that you love me.  I think that I love you too, but really what do we know about love.  I get the same old speech from parents, “your just ___ years old, you have so many years ahead of you.  You will know true love when it comes to you and you just don’t know it now, you’re too young.”  Why can’t we show our love for one another in other ways?  Why do we have to prove it by our ability to have sex?

First, what does God say about fornication?  In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Paul wrote, “Do not be deceived.  Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”  In Galatians 5:19 Paul wrote, “Now the works of the flesh are adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness.”  In verse 21 Paul concluded that those who practice these will not inherit the kingdom of God.  That should be enough for us.  Fornication is having sex outside of marriage and God condemns this.  I want to be pleasing to God and I want to inherit the kingdom.  Paul also tells the Corinthians that sexual immorality, having sex is sexual immorality, is sin against your own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18.

Second, what will this do to my influence?  If we have sex then I am showing you that I am no different than everyone else.  I am supposed to be different.  You say that it will remain between us, but it never does.  You will say something to a friend or I will say something to a friend and they will talk to others; then not only will I have lost any influence with you I will also have lost influence with others too.

Third, what about the consequences?  You say we will be careful, that we will use protection but what if…?  Are you ready to be a parent?  I am not!  I am only ___ years old.  And if you think abortion is an option you are more deluded that I realized.  What about sexually transmitted diseases, don’t they scare you?  They scare me to abstinence.  Some can be treated with antibiotics and others require a medical procedure.  Still others stay with you for life.  Did you know that there is no cure for herpes?  Did you know that syphilis can stay dormant in the body for years and present itself later in life?  Do you remember that AIDS kills?

And besides all of this, who else have you had sex with?  I know that you have dated others; did you have sex with them?  A sexual relationship is an intimate personal relationship between a husband and wife.  It is a special bond to be shared with one person.

What do I have to prove?  Absolutely nothing when it comes to having sex, but absolutely everything when it comes to being a Christian.

Blessed is the man who listens to me,
Watching daily at my gates,
Waiting at the posts of my doors.

- Proverbs 8:34
