The Church of Your Choice?

Many in the denominations are proud to declare that each one may have the church of his or her choice.  Religion, to them, is like a cafeteria—pick and choose what you want from a variety offerings; take what pleases you.  This doctrine is not from heaven, but from men.

The Bible is clear that the Lord established only one church.  Jesus said, “I will build my church,” not “my churches” (Matt. 16:18).  Paul said the church is the body of Christ and that there is only one body (Eph. 1:22-23; 4:4).  Within that body there is only one doctrine of Christ upon which all believers are to be united (Eph. 4:5; Jn. 17:20-23).

When men clamor for the church of their choice, they show disrespect for God and reveal their own arrogance.  We must be humble enough to acknowledge the superiority of God’s wisdom (Isa. 55:8-9).  His church ought to be our choice, not the churches of men.  Denominations, such as Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal, Episcopal, etc., are from men, not God.  None of them are found in His Word, thus none are His choice—and they should not be ours either.

We urge you to search the Scriptures to see if these things are so (Acts 17:11).  Examine the New Testament to find out if your church is in there.

I will build My church.
- Matthew 16:18
