The Roman Catholic Church claims to be the one true church of the Bible. The problem is, it cannot be found in the Bible. The name “Roman Catholic” is not authorized by Scripture. The church of the New Testament is described as church of God, household of God, body of Christ, kingdom of God (1 Cor. 1:2; 1 Tim. 3:15; Eph. 4:12; Rom. 14:17). Congregations are described as churches of Christ (Rom. 16:16). “Roman Catholic” is nowhere in the New Testament, and is therefore an invention of men. The position or office of “pope” is not in the Bible. The Roman Catholic church claims the pope is the successive office of Peter. However, Peter was no pope. The pope accepts the homage of men who will bow down and kiss his hand. Peter refused the homage of other men, saying he was just a man like them (Acts 10:25-26). The pope is “Father” to Roman Catholics. Jesus said, “Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven” (Matt. 23:9). The Roman Catholic church is not in the Bible. Therefore, it cannot be the New Testament church established by Jesus Christ. For further study on this or other religious topics, contact us. |
