Article on road rage in LA

Does that move you?  For me it is both heartbreaking and anger.  I feel for the mother and her children, not to mention the poor father whose family is suffering so greatly.  My righteous indignation is stirred toward the two who caused it all.

What can we learn from this terrible event?

Check Your Temper!
Yes, I will confess, I get upset at bad drivers.  Whether they ride my bumper, go ridiculously slow for no apparent reason, cut me off, pull out in front of me, or any number of other reasons.  The foolish actions of these men go way beyond upset.  The Bible says, “A man of great wrath will suffer punishment” (Prov. 19:19).  Not only could you possibly face jail, financial penalties, but certainly your conscience will eat away at you for years because of a moment of explosive anger.  If not corrected before God, you will spend eternity in hell.  Stop and think before you act, it could cost you and others dearly.

The Sin of Others Affects The Innocent
What did mother and children do wrong?  Nothing.  They were simply going about their life.  Yet, they have and will suffer greatly.  Of course, if the four year old dies, he will be at peace.  The father, mother, and sister, though, will have a lifetime of difficulties; physical or mental.  Are we to blame God for this?  No.  Satan is the cause of this senseless suffering.  He is the one who tempted these men into wrath that resulted in the injuries to the innocent.  Should be blame God for not stopping it or allowing it?  No.  If men did not have the ability to choose, there would be no love.  Without free will, we cannot choose to love God, an essential element to being truly devoted to Him.  If there were no consequences to our sins, including physical, then it would be hard for us to see its destructiveness.  This reality of life is difficult to face, but it is true (Prov. 27:3).

The Appropriate Punishment Should Be Applied
The two men are facing attempted murder charges and could face murder charges if the boy dies.  Whichever way it is, the full force of the law ought to be brought to bear on them.  God intends for the government to suppress evil, including capital punishment (Rom. 13:1-4).  Stricter enforcement and heavier penalties would help curtail acts of stupidity and violence.  We fear a more likely outcome for these two men will be “anger-management” counseling.

Let us pray for this family and the two men.

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven.

- Ecclesiastes 3:1
