Dear Steven

Are you keeping track of the presidential primary race? The Republican nominee is likely decided. The Democrat nominee is still technically up for grabs, though it is looking more and more like Obama will win. There are many problems I have with each candidate, but here is an observation about Obama.

Obama is charismatic and plays well before an audience and on TV. His speeches are filled with lofty rhetoric. They lack substance, but are mezmorizing audiences across the nation.

This is similar to most denominational preachers. They can really move an audience, but there is little to nothing in the content. It is like eating cotton candy. It's sweet and if you eat enough you will get a sugar rush. However, you eventually crash and lack any real nourishment.

Someone asked me the other day about Joel Osteen. He was reading one of his books and wondered about recommending it to his daughter. He wondered because he was unsure of it. It seemed to have some good things in it, but he had an uncomfortable feeling. I told him Joel fed the people a diet of Twinkies, not meat and potatoes; he never condemns and will not say belief in Jesus is essential to salvation. There is much more that can be said about Smiley Joel, but suffice it to say he is a false teacher that whispers sweet-nothings - and that is pretty typical of denominational preachers. In fact, many of them aspire to be like Joel.

Anyway, don't be fooled by the silver-tongued speakers of modern politics and religion. Stick to substance; stick to the Bible.

Thanks for reading.

Worship and Service

By Steven F. Deaton
Any who believe in the Bible, Jesus Christ, and heaven, will admit a need to worship and serve God. He seeks those who will worship Him in spirit and truth (Jn. 4:23, 24). He commands men to serve Him (Lk. 1:74; Matt. 4:10). Some fail to recognize the difference in the two.

Wise Words
Whoever walks blamelessly
will be saved,
But he who is perverse in his ways
will suddenly fall.
