Dear Steven

Satisfied With Scraps?

In Matthew 15:21-28, a Canaanite woman seeks Jesus' help. Her daughter is demon-possessed and she wants Jesus to fix it. His first response was no. The woman persisted and Jesus again said no; "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs." Her reply was, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master's table." The Lord recognized this as great faith. She believe just the "scraps" of what Jesus offered was enough to help her daughter.

Are we content to receive even the small blessings from the Lord? Does our faith in Him tell us that whatever He gives will be sufficient? Such faith is commended Christ. It is the type of faith that will sustain a man or woman through the most difficult trials of life.

Another point needs to be made. The woman was not out of line by persisting with the Lord. She respectfully expressed her strong desire for His help. We need to do the same. In our time of need we are to go boldly to the throne of grace (Heb. 4:16). Is this what we do or do we ask once and then give up when we don't think He has granted our petition? Let us have the faith that God will answer our prayers, being politely persistent.
